Years of sun exposure leave their mark on the skin, and eventually, no amount of concealer fully covers the spots, patches, and uneven tone that accumulate over time. Sun damage treatment at Skin with Benefits uses the Hollywood Spectra laser to target the excess melanin concentrated in sunspots, age spots, and areas of uneven pigmentation, breaking it down so the body can clear it naturally.
The Hollywood Spectra is a Q-switched Nd:YAG laser, which means it delivers energy in ultra-short pulses that are absorbed specifically by pigment. This selectivity is important, it means the laser can target discolored areas without affecting the surrounding healthy skin, which makes the treatment both precise and efficient. The result is progressively clearer, more even-toned skin as treated spots fade over subsequent sessions.

Sun damage treatment is appropriate for clients dealing with sunspots, age spots, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, or a general unevenness in skin tone that has developed from cumulative UV exposure. It works particularly well on the face, chest, and hands, areas that tend to show sun damage most visibly.
The treatment itself is relatively quick and comfortable for most clients. You may notice some darkening of the treated spots immediately after the session, which is the pigment responding to the laser energy. Over the following days and weeks, those spots will gradually fade and clear. Sunscreen is non-negotiable after this treatment, because fresh, laser-treated skin is more susceptible to UV damage and new discoloration. We'll make sure you're set up with everything you need to protect your results.

Answers to your frequently asked questions.
Age spots, sunspots, freckles, flat brown spots, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, and general discoloration from cumulative UV exposure all respond well to this treatment.
Some clients see improvement after one session, but a series of two to four treatments is typically recommended for more significant sun damage. Your esthetician will assess your skin and give you a realistic expectation.
You'll need to avoid direct sun exposure for a period after treatment and wear broad-spectrum sunscreen daily. We'll give you a complete aftercare protocol at your appointment.
For clients with active tans, we may recommend waiting until the tan has faded before treating. Laser treatment on actively tanned skin carries a higher risk of uneven results.
